Creating a business banner: How do you make it really pop out?

There are many scenarios where you would need to create a banner for your business. Examples of this include when you are starting a new business, as well as when you want to advertise something new about it.

In all such cases, a classic mistake you should avoid is creating a bland banner that most people will simply gloss over. Remember that a banner is essentially your business’ calling card, and you need to make it really stand out for it to perform its function. There are a few considerations you can make when doing this to ensure that you get it done right, including:

Location

Where are you going to place the banner? This might seem like a simple enough question, but there are many cases where people get it completely wrong. When you are thinking of where to place the banner, you should consider the nature of the people who will be walking past it. Where are they most likely to be looking when they do so? What will they be looking at? The key to proper location is to place the banner in such a manner that an individual will not have to go out of their way to see it. The main reason behind putting yourself in the shoes of the people you are targeting is to know where this location will be.

It is important to avoid crowding out the banner. Placing it in a location where there are so many other banners will simply make people gloss over each of them, and not pay attention to any. As much as possible, try to make yours stand alone.

Colour scheme

Choosing a colour scheme for a banner is a tricky business. On one hand, you want to use colours that will attract your clients with ease. On the other hand, you also don’t want the banner to be too tacky, such as when you use colour too much.

In the past, it was thought that the brighter the colours the better. However, the trick to using colour as a tool to attract people is to simply make it inviting depending on the sort of business you are running. If you are aiming at attracting kids, it would be reasonable to use bright colours. However, when you want to create banners for a business such as a finance office, a more sober colour scheme should be used since anything else would be unprofessional. The key to getting this right is thinking carefully about your ideal colour scheme, rather than just using any colours.

The message

Finally, you need to carefully select what you want written on the banner. A rule of thumb you can live by is to use as few words as possible to convey the most essential information. If you offer laptop repairs and want to use a banner to advertise this business, use a banner that clearly states this. Having one that is too wordy will work against you. You can also employ the use of graphics as an additional way of conveying this message.
